Facultative classes developing personal skills and preparing the doctoral student for work of research or research and development nature****

* the scientific supervisor specifies the entity where the faculty seminar will take place in a given year

** upon request of the scientific supervisor, the annual statement may be completed through another public presentation of the doctoral student if there are at least 10 listeners including the scientific supervisor and the faculty manager

**** Facultative classes developing professional skills whose range corresponds to at least 5 ECTS points, preparing the doctoral student for work of research or research and development nature, the doctoral students may complete them through various types of activities documenting their work contribution. For example, participation in courses, trainings, e-learning courses, presentation of posters at conferences, conference presentations, publications in reviewed magazines, obtaining grants (project managers), popularisation activities etc.

 

During doctoral studies at the Nencki Institute, it is required to obtain 30-45 ETCS points, including at least 5 ETCS points for facultative activities which prepare the doctoral student for work of research or research and development nature (bolded).

During the first two years of the doctoral studies, the students of the doctoral studies at the Nencki Institute are bound to pass one (selected from the two mentioned below) course of thematic lectures, agreed with the thesis supervisor, ending with an examination. Every year, one of the two courses is organised interchangeably: "Biochemistry and molecular biology", "Basic neurobiology". The thematic lecture from the other course may be selected by the doctoral students as one of additional lectures, in agreement with the scientific supervisor.
